Vienna 1777. The 18 year old ”Resi” Paradis, blind from an early age, is known in Viennese society as a child prodigy at the piano. After numerous faulty medical treatments, Resi comes to Franz Anton Mesmer, a doctor, controversial due to his innovative methods. In Mesmer`s open house, a mixture of rococo and enlightenment, Resi slowly begins to experience freedom for the first time in her life. When, as a result of the treatment, she begins to see the first pictures, she is shocked to find that she is losing her musical virtuosity. In this elaborate production and with great attention to detail, Barbara Albert`s fifth film tells a parable about the power of music in Mozart`s Vienna.
