About 50 years ago, master director Luchino Visconti set out to find the actor who would play Tadzio in his legendary film version of Thomas Mann's novella DEATH IN VENICE. He personally recorded his months-long journey through half of Europe in a documentary. In Stockholm he finally comes across 15-year-old Björn Andrésen, the ideal cast for him. Andrésen, virtually unknown, becomes an icon overnight through his portrayal of the angelic youth. The film accompanies Andrésen privately and professionally over several years, tells his tragic life story and reflects on the dark side of early fame as well as the marketing strategies of the film business.
