In conversation with Cornelia Köhler, Michael Brynntrup introduces his new text and picture book and presents eight of his Super 8 and 16mm films in digitised format.

"You should have seen it," wrote Wiglaf Droste laconically in the taz in 1986 about the "intimacy, immediacy and quickly developed situational comedy" of Michael Brynntrup's Super 8 films. Dietrich Kuhlbrodt characterised them in the Frankfurter Rundschau in 1990 as "aesthetically broken and pathetically enigmatic: beautifully ambitious".

The new book of images and texts by filmmaker Michael Brynntrup celebrates the magic of the Super 8 phenomenon on 400 pages. As a mixture of work exhibition and independent opus, this "material book", as the artist himself calls it, lets photos, graphics and drawings meet diary entries, reviews and film sketches. A dialogue between text and image, between yesterday and today - lusty, blasphemous, wild, provocative and consistently queer.
