A young milk farmer whose cows have been infected by a contagious disease and have to be killed - not exactly the stuff with which an unknown director realises the financing of his first feature film. And yet Hubert Charuel - who comes from a farming family and was able to shoot on the parental farm - has succeeeded in making a thrilling drama for which he was awarded three Césars. The 30-year-old Pierre has taken over his parents` farm and with the infection of one of his cattle, he is faced with bankruptcy because now by rights the whole herd has to be slaughtered. By rights- for in order to rescue his livelihood and his animals, Pierre becomes resourceful.
