Since 2014, AT MIDNIGHT presents demanding genrecinema with passion and brains. Looking at the programs of the last five years, which had their eye on trends or famous authors, the genre connoisseur might notice: Female directors are highly underrepresented in the horror and thriller cinema. However, the few active female directors often contribute the most extraordinary films. “Elevated genre” or “genre hybrid” are terms to name this urgently needed rejuvenation for shot to undeath genre stories. With “Bloody Women at Midnight” the BIFF presents a current selection of eight, mostly European, short and feature-length films, which – from A for Alps to Z for Zombie – give new perspectives on the genre-cinema. A few German premieres are screening at the traditional “AT MIDNIGHT cinema” Universum Filmtheatre 2: DEEP TISSUE, HOUSE OF SWEAT AND TEARS and GO HOME.
