European Actors Award

There is scarcely another actress who has a greater repertoire than Nina Hoss: she is at home in European auteur films and on German and European theatre stages, just as much as in American hit series. She thus belongs to one of the most sought-after German actresses, also internationally. She grew up in her parental home with art and politics, learnt to grapple with the world, not only in her profession but also beyond it. As early as 7 years old, she spoke in radio plays and when she was 14, she had her first acting role on stage. Coming directly from the Ernst-Busch Drama School, she was taken on for her film debut in UND KEINER WEINT MIR NACH. In 1997 Nina Hoss was awarded the Golden Camera for the role of Rosemarie Nitribitt and numerous prestigious awards followed. Her stage career began in 1998 at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and at the moment she is part of the ensemble of the Schaubühne Theatre. Nina Hoss is convincing in her roles through her strong presence, spontaneity and credibility. “Acting”, she says, “has a lot to do with how you move as a figure in a room: do you find the right stance, or are you lost?” She calls her getting together with director Christian Petzold a “life encounter” and says:“With Christian, it was a matter of content; I had the feeling of making progress, as an actress and in the understanding of film.” On 21. October, Nina Hoss will receive the European Actors Award “DIE EUROPA”, donated by Volkswagen Financial Services.
