The Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov has been on hunger strike for months since he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for ”terrorist activities” by a Russian military court after an ”unfair trial” (Amnesty International). We are reminiscent of him from him with his first feature film: GAMER deals with a young, talented and addicted computer player from the East Ukrainian provinces. A film about ambition, loneliness and disappointment. The player wins and wins, goes to the world championship and has to discover that his life afterwards is just as senseless and void.
