New German Films

What’s showing in the new series of NEW GERMAN FILMS, following the anniversary year? From entertainment to drama: this year’s films are diverse and disturbing! This year it’s the turn of the generation of directors from the 70s and 80s to explore the spectrum of human nature! We look back to childhood and youth. In the film DARK BLUE GIRL we accompany Luca, who reacts jealously to her parents’ falling in love again. The Swiss director Martin Guggisberg tells the story of integration quite differently in his film MEET THE GÄHWIHLERS, which has its German premiere in the festival. In the broadest sense, ICEMAN, with Jürgen Vogel in the lead role, is also a migration story about the last days of the prehistoric human, Ötzi. Here speech is a minor issue. The documentary HOMO SAPIENS, which shows deserted places in stark long shots, also manages completely without speech. Horror and thriller elements are also often found in German cinema: DIE VIERHÄNDIGE is an enthralling thriller about the relationship between two sisters. And this year we also have a historical biopic in the programme: Barbara Albert’s MADEMOISELLE PARADIS plays on the historical backdrop of 1777. What else is there to say? In our opinion, this cross-section of current German film releases is once again absolutely worth seeing. The Series NEW GERMAN FILMS is again supported this year by gaertner Datensysteme.
