This year’s selection sets a new agenda! Apart from the powerful subject-matter, the number of films by female filmmakers, above all, is remarkable in this time of the quota debate. Six of the eight films are from established directors and newcomers. The narrative forms differ and yet still all deal with relationships – from the individual in society and also partially on the edge of society! BLUE MY MIND, the debut film of Lias Brühlmann, is a wonderful Swiss coming-of-age story. The drama WE WERE JUST PLAYING shows the rapprochement of two boys from different spheres of life, the directing is by Ann-Kristin Reyels. The films VACUUM with Barbara Auer, from Christine Repond, and REISE NACH JERUSALEM by Lucia Chiarla, relate touchingly about the life realities of women. WHAT DOESN’T KILL US, the new film from Sandra Nettelbeck, concentrates completely on the subject of relationships and features film stars in all its roles! Both IN MY ROOM by Ulrich Köhler and COPS by Stefan Lukacs relate entirely from the perspective of their male protagonists! And last but not least, this year’s documentary film, AGGREGATE, is also from a female filmmaker. Marie Wilke shows us the current political mood in this country. And here too we say: it’s worth it!
