The 10 part series ROTE ERDE {RED EARTH} 1 was made in1983, a second series with four episodes followed in 1989. It tells the story of a working class family in the Ruhr area at the turn of the 20th century up until the founding of the Federal Republic and the GDR. Thus emerged an exciting, moving and multi-layered panorama of that era. The audience meets people and their fate in dramatic times. Appearing in the series are numerous young actors and actresses who today can still be seen frequently in German films and on TV. We are screening episode 9 of the first series (5 DAYS AND 5 NIGHTS), as well as episode 1 of the second series (FRENCH MINE) about the years 1919 - 1923.
