Christian is the celebrated curator of a contemporary art museum, a divorced father who drives an expensive hybrid and values the finer things in life. His next project, THE SQUARE, is an installation, which is supposed to motivate passer-bys to act altruistically and at the same time remind them of their role as responsible citizens. But sometimes it is hard to satisfy the high standards: Christian`s reaction to the theft of his mobile phone causes a spiral of unexpected events. The situation escalates when the agency of the museum starts a campaign for THE SQUARE, to which the public reacts disturbingly.
