”I didn’t want a heavy, depressive film – I wanted a feel-good movie”, says the director about his first feature film. He succeeded – which is shown by the Francois Chalais Prize he won at the world premiere at Cannes. Beshay – a man cured of leprosy – leaves, with the Nubian orphan child Obama and his donkey, after 30 years of living in an isolated leprosy colony to search for his family. Their way leads them through rural Egypt. The film touches, because of its unbiased, sometimes slightly naive view at the two wonderful lead actors, who had never played in a film before.
