In this film, an Ecuadorian production, the renowned filmmaker follows the famous Ecuadorian mountaineer Iván Vallejo to Nepal in order to document his expedition. Conversations about their lives lead to philosophical questions. Eventually, the mountain leads them to examine their lives and the motivations behind their actions. There are no glossy pictures or heroic statements. In earthy colours, up close to the characters, the film documents the hardships of mountaineering, its fascination and the never-ending search for the meaning of this activity. In May 2008, Iván Vallejo completed the ascent of all 14 eight-thousanders, a project he himself called "Desafio 14".
