Sisters Saila and Mai have been active in animal and environmental protection since childhood. While Saila took a more radical path and secretly filmed in hundreds of animal farms, her sister chose the path into politics. Saila was involved in a legal battle for several years, which almost led to her being imprisoned, while Mia was elected to the Finnish Parliament. Using the real-life example of both sisters, the film sensitively illuminates the search for the right degree of responsible action in the field of tension between self-destructive actionism and participating in too many compromises in day-to-day politics.

Director's Biography:JUST ANIMALS is the first joint directorial effort by Vesa Kuosmanen and Saila Kivelä. Kuosmanen has directed several short films (documentary and fiction) and a feature film. He is also active as a director of smaller film festivals.
