HÄXAN is a solitaire in film history; a serious reflection on witchcraft and witch trials, but at the same time the father of cinematic subgenres such as occult horror and nunsploitation. Banned in the Weimar Republic after its theatrical release, the film has achieved cult status over the decades. Vortex, the dark ambient ritual project by Prof. Dr. Marcus Stiglegger, opens up a new approach to Christensen's visual worlds with throat singing, shaman drums and drone guitar chords. "I would describe the result as hypnotic-psychedelic and extremely sinister," says Stiglegger about his music, for which he has specially created a condensed editing version that brings the essence of HÄXAN into the present day.
