Scotland 1994: Johnno and Spanner are enthusiastic about electronic music, which they listen to on pirate channels. The two friends get hooked by Anarcho-DJ D Man ("This is not just a party, this is a protest"), break out of the dreary social housing of their hometown and let themselves be carried away by the euphoric atmosphere of the underground techno scene and the exciting, illegal rave parties... With BEATS director Brian Welsh revives the pulsating soundtrack of his youth and tells of raves, friendship and rebellion in an authentic cool look and with lots of humour – backed up with terrific tracks by Human Resource, Prodigy, Inner City, Outlander, LFO and many more.

Director's Biography:Brian Welsh was born in Falkirk, Scotland on 10.08.81 and worked as an editor and director for TV and cinema. Together with Kieran Hurley, he adapted  BEATS -his stage hit of the same name- which deals with the beginnings of the techno movement. Co-producer is Steven Soderbergh.
