A corrupt police detective on the island La Gomera learns the local whistling language so he can communicate with other criminals in Bucarest. This is only one of the wacky ideas in this gangster comedy about the mafia’s washed and lost millions. A number of motifs and clichés not only from the film noir but from the entirety of film history (from femme fatale GILDA to PSYCHO’s shower scene) are woven into a wonderfully entertaining whole. The complex plot with its intrigues, surveillence, and corrupt policemen takes second place to black humour. THE WHISTLERS was nominated for the Golden Palm this year in Cannes.

Director's Biography:Born in Vaslui Romania in1975. Studied at the national theatre and film university Ion Luca Caragiala. Graduated in 2003. His first film A FOST SAU N-A FOST? won the Golden Camera in Cannes for the best debut film.
