On to the phenomenon of Cuban music: In MUSICA CUBANA director Kurt Hartel resorts to the cultural melting pot that is Havana, to track historic roots as well as current developments. From clave and the hypnotic rhythms of the bongo drums at Orisha-ceremonies via the enjoyment of life of rumba and salsa through to dance companies and contemporary live-bands: With his debut film Hartel manages to portray an as much authentic as lively documentary of the multifaceted Cuban music culture. The focus is on the musicians, their work and views.

Director's Biography:The graduate physicist and jazz musican founds the production company Lautrazfilm in order to realise his movie MUSICA CUBANA as independently as possible.
