In 19th century rural Vietnam, 14-year-old May is the third woman to be married to a rich landowner. Inspired by the family history of her own grandmother and ancestor, the director succeeds in her debut feature film in making an incredibly poetic and magical film, with breathtaking pictures and spherical sounds. The film took over five years to complete, the team consisted exclusively of women, for eight months more than 900 girls were auditioned for the leading role, for the night shots real fires were lit. This attention to detail and authenticity can be felt. The director says that she wanted to set a "cinematic monument" for women.

Director's Biography:Ash Mayfair was born and raised in Vietnam in 1985. She completed her MFA at the renowned Tisch School of the Arts in New York. Her short films, as well as her feature film debut THE THIRD WIFE, have been shown and awarded at numerous film festivals (including Toronto and San Sebastian).
